- ARE YOU READY FOR THE RAPTURE IN 1998?
What did the Apostles learn from the Holy Spirit and teach in
Spirit-inspired writings about knowing the "times and seasons,"
having been taught by the Holy Spirit? Paul said, "But of
the times and seasons, brethren, ye have NO NEED that I write
unto you. For yourselves KNOW PERFECTLY that the day of the Lord
so cometh as a thief in the night" (1 Thess. 5:1).
- This simply means that the Christians in Apostolic times
knew everything that CAN BE KNOWN about the Second Coming, an
event which is known ONLY to the Father (Mark 13:32; Matt. 24:36;
Acts 1:7). They were taught EVERYTHING which was necessary to
prevent "the day" overtaking them as a thief in the
night, for they were to always be WATCHING AND PRAYING (1 Thess.
5:1-11). The defense is in "Watching and Praying,"
not in discerning "times and seasons" and knowing the
date. If they had known the date, they would NOT have to "watch
and pray" BEFORE the date!

- EXAMPLES OF THE CHANGES IN THE INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE NIV
The Today's New International Version New Testament will not
appear in bookstores until the spring, but the entire text is
available at their web site. It makes such changes as the following:
"brethren" is changed to "brothers and sisters,"
"man" is changed to "humankind" or "people,"
"he" is sometimes changed to "they," and
sons of God is changed to "children of God."
1 TIMOTHY 3:1 - KJV "This is a true saying, If a man desire
the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work."
TNIV "Here is a trustworthy saying: whoever aspires to be
an overseer desires a noble task."
The TNIV rendering allows for women pastors. The TNIV translators
and publisher have claimed
that they have not made any changes to passages that refer exclusively
to men. We see here
that this simply is not true. 1 Tim. 3:1 refers exclusively to
men, but they have changed it
so that it refers inclusively to men or women.
1 TIMOTHY 3:11 - KJV "Even so must their wives be grave,
not landerers, sober, faithful in all things."
TNIV "In the same way, women, who are deacons, are to be
worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy
in everything."
The corrupt TNIV translation not only allows for women deacons;
it overtly encourages them.
The Greek says nothing about "women who are deacons."
The "translators" of the TNIV have created this reading
by adding to the Word of God.
HEBREWS 2:6 - KJV "But one in a certain place testified,
saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son
of man, that thou visitest him?"
TNIV "What are mere mortals that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

TO UNITY
London (ENI). Religion took centre stage at the celebrations
for Queen Elizabeth II's golden jubilee when the leaders of Churches
Together in England signed an ecumenical covenant with the queen
looking on. The 50th anniversary of the queen's accession to
the throne in 1952 is being celebrated by Britons with a four-day
holiday from 1 to 4 June. One of the highlights of the jubilee,
a service at Windsor on 2 June, was followed by the signing ceremony.

- PALESTINIAN AMERICAN ELECTED MODERATOR OF PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
New York (ENI). The Presbyterian Church (USA) has elected a Palestinian
American pastor and avowed proponent of non-violence as its new
moderator. Meeting at its General Assembly in Columbus, Ohio,
the 2.5-million-member denomination selected the Rev. Fahed Abu-Akel,
of
Atlanta, Georgia, for the position. As moderator, he will chair
the assembly, which ends on 22 June, and serve as a denominational
spokesperson for the coming year. Abu-Akel, voted moderator on
15 June, said he was elected because of his ministry and long
record of work in
the denomination but acknowledged that his election may have
symbolic importance, as well. "Justice for Palestinians

NIGERIAN MAN FACES DEATH FOR ADULTERY
An Islamic court in northern Nigeria has for the first time sentenced
a man to death by stoning for adultery in a case likely to reopen
the argument over the role of Sharia, or Islamic Law, in the

not prohibit women from teaching men. "I feel like it's

to examine their investment portfolios to help counter negative
aspects of the global economy. The call was made at a meeting
of 80 western European church representatives held from 15 to
19 June in Soesterberg, in the Netherlands. Participants drew
up a list of actions for churches, including the idea that the
churches examine the management of their own financial resources,
such as pension funds, to see how far they can use their financial

California, is using its hi-tech sanctuary to turn the sermon
into a dialogue. "The 330-seat sanctuary installed a big-screen

buttons on the keypads allow the congregation to answer multiple-choice

A federal lawsuit filed in another California court last week
seeks to stop a public school from having its seventh-graders
pray to Allah... The public school students at Excelsior pretend

of a World History and Geography class that's being taught to
seventh-graders all over the state.

- NICKELODEON TO AIR GAY PARENT SPECIAL
Despite a staggering 100,000 e-mails and phone calls in protest,
Nickelodeon will telecast a special for children about same-sex
parents on Tuesday night. The half-hour report, produced by Linda
Ellerbee and featuring Rosie O'Donnell, includes comments from
the Rev. Jerry Falwell - who later joined conservative activists
in urging Nickelodeon not to air it. The Washington-based Traditional
Values Coalition has spearheaded the campaign against "Nick
News Special Edition: My Family is Different," sight unseen.
There were so many e-mails Nickelodeon had to set up a separate
address to avoid a computer crash. "It is a cover for promoting
homosexuality for kids," said Andrea Lafferty, the coalition's
executive director. Nickelodeon said that's not so. Ellerbee,
in the show's introduction, says, "The following program

- ATHEISTS PROTEST GROUND ZERO CROSS
The organization American Atheists is protesting a proposal to
use a large steel cross found in the rubble of the World Trade
Center in a memorial to victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Describing itself as a "nationwide movement which defends
the civil rights of nonbelievers," the group said in a statement
yesterday that use of the cross in a government-funded monument
"would violate the separation of church and state, be insensitive

A grand jury is poring over reams of documents from the Archdiocese
of Boston to determine whether the local Catholic hierarchy can
be held accountable for knowingly shifting pedophile priests

the grand jury to review the thousands of pages of documentation
that has been generated through the still-unfolding sex abuse
scandal. The grand jury has been sitting for ``some time now''

in far southern Mexico have taken yet one more sharp turn in
