THE WORD WAS GOD
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made
by him; and without him was not any thing made that was
made.
In him was life; and
the life was the light of men. And the light
shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There
was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for
a witness, to bear witness of the Light,
that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light,
but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the
true Light, which lighteth every man

He was in the world,

the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying,
This was he of whom I spake,
He that cometh after me
is preferred before me:
for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received,
and grace for grace. For the law was given by
Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which
is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

this ministry. We were Mormons (Temple Mormons) for 20 years.
We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking
out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth:

were in a cult. No-one had witnessed to us in 20 years.

The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
and today's church doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word
of God has undergone many changes to fit the progressive modes.
Many new Bible tranlations have brought confusion. The Bible
calls for a falling away from the truth before
Jesus comes back for His Bride. The true believers are called
'Ekklesia.' Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the
Bible is true from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend, the so called democratizing what is left of the world.
This is a deception since the underlying new world global government
is developed by implementing sustainable development. The
Bible prophesies that there will be ten kings (ten horns), each
king (horn) will receive a region of the world as a reward for
work well done for the Antichrist. This is the reason for the
present development of NAU (The North American Union) as well
as the war in the Middle East. It again proves that we are moving
to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied in the Bible.
The end result will not be Democracy but a form of Fascist Communism
(Public/Private Corporations enslaving mankind).
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings because Israel is the time piece of the Biblical Prophecy.
1948 was the beginning of the figtree representing Israel, coming
back to life. Israel was allowed to return to its land. Israel
is the rock upon which the world stumbles and crumbles. We watch
and visit Israel for signs which point to the Tribulation to
confirm that we are moving into that space of time.

 SCRIPTURE STUDY - Overcoming
Deception with Truth
By Mike Gendron - The Roman Catholic Church claims to be the
one true church founded by Jesus Christ.
But is it really? Or has it become Satan's most cleverly disguised
counterfeit? To the casual observer the Roman Catholic Church
appears to be genuinely Christian because it upholds the basic
fundamentals of Christianity. Keep in mind however; the most
deceptive counterfeit is the one that most closely resembles
the genuine article. Catholicism's veil of truth covers a false
gospel "a gospel of works. It is "good works"
that Satan uses in all of man's religions to thwart the saving
power of God's grace. The great lie of Satan is that man can
appease God's justice and wrath by performing good works. It
is a most deadly lie, because man's works nullify God's grace,
the only means by which God saves sinners (Eph.2:8-9).
Thus, the battle for the eternal destiny of souls is ultimately
a conflict between God's truth and Satan's lies. Satan seduces
humanity with cleverly created counterfeits that blind people
from the truth. ?The god of this age [Satan] has blinded the
minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the
gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Cor.
4:4). As the prince of the world, he holds men captive with his

- WHY DID JESUS FOLD THE LINEN BURIAL CLOTH AFTER HIS RESURRECTION?
- The Gospel of John (20: 7) tells us that the napkin, which
was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside
like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell
us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head
of that stony coffin.
- Is that important? You'd better believe it is that Significant.
In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin,
you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of
that day.- The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant,
and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set
the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly
the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly,
and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the
master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch
that table, until the master was finished.
- Now if the master had finished eating, he would rise from
the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard,
and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The
servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days,
the wadded napkin meant, "I'm done." But if the master
got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside
his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because
the servant knew that the folded napkin meant, "I'm not
finished yet." The folded napkin meant, "I'm coming

 November 7, 2007 - King Abdullah
held a historic meeting yesterday with Pope Benedict XVI and
called for dialogue between Muslims, Christians and Jews in order
to promote peace, justice and moral values. The warmth exuded
by the two leaders on a chilly morning set the tone for the day.
Greeting the king with a smile, the pope was effusive and eloquent
in his actions as he warmly welcomed the Saudi monarch. The two
leaders clasped hands on meeting and smiled before embarking
on their historic talks. The king and the pope held talks for
about 60 minutes in the pontiff’s library with the help
of interpreters. Benedict spoke in Italian and the king in Arabic.
The Vatican said the meeting was cordial. During the meeting,
King Abdullah emphasized that dialogue between religions and
cultures was essential in order to promote tolerance, get rid
of violence and achieve peace and security for all peoples. The
Vatican talks assume great importance as King Abdullah met the
pope, the leader of Roman Catholics, as custodian of the Two
Holy Mosques. “This is a historic meeting. It provides an
opportunity for a meaningful Muslim-Christian dialogue,”
said an Italian observer. An Italian woman, who has been a Vatican
observer for years, said: “The pope is viewed as a conservative
right-wing person. Though he is dogmatic, it should be noted

Israel and the Holy See will “speed up” negotiations
in coming months, while bilateral dialogue has been ongoing for

Permanent Working Commission between the Holy See and the State

young immigrants and refugees assimilate in host countries and
protect them from sexual exploitation and human trafficking,
Pope Benedict said on Wednesday.
- For their part, immigrants must obey laws and never resort

Church's World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which will fall
on January 13.
- The Pope issued his message as rich countries around the
world, from the United States to Europe, are engaged in heated
debates about immigration and its effect on everything ranging
from national culture, to education, to crime.

process had created many problems. Young immigrants, including
children, too easily fell victim to the worst form of exploitation,
he said.

he said. "While it is true that much is being done for them,
even greater commitment is still needed to help them by creating

HUD orders residents to avoid Jesus in decorations - November

- MEGACHURCH TOOK IN $69 MILLION IN 2006
ATLANTA (AP) - November 11,2007 - An Atlanta megachurch took
in $69 million in 2006, according to a financial statement the
church's minister released in response to a Senate investigation
into him and five other well-known televangelists. The Rev. Creflo
Dollar disclosed the World Changers Church International's financial
information to The Atlanta Journal- Constitution, but said the
money he spends is his own. Dollar said his income comes from
personal investments, including businesses and real estate ventures.
But the church gave him a Rolls Royce, which he mainly uses for
special occasions, he said. "Without a doubt, my life is
not average," he said. "But I'd like to say, just because

Proverbs states there is a way that “seems right”
to man. However, Jesus said what seems right to man may not be
right with Him. For this reason, Christians must be led by the
Spirit of God and follow God’s Word. However, as the Bible
teaches, it is possible to believe one is being led by God, but
instead be misled
- by Satan.
- Emerging Church propaganda has created a major controversy
within a number of fellowships that were once made up of Bible
believing and teaching pastors. Pastors sympathetic to the Emerging
Church say Christianity must change or be reinvented if we
are going to be relevant and reach the postmodern generation.
Change is necessary, they say, because Christianity is no longer
relevant for the postmodern era and the gospel can no longer
reach young people who are looking for experiences. Recently,
a group of pastors debating the pros and cons of the Emerging
Church in a private pastors’ discussion group, put forward
a number of ideas with regard to the Emerging Church. Some felt
that older pastors (even the founder of the movement) were out
of touch with today’s youth and therefore no longer relevant.
Apparently, teaching the Scriptures verse by verse and pointing
people to the soon return of Jesus had its day, but not anymore.
Of course being relevant and reaching this generation for Christ
is of vital importance. However, reaching people for Christ must
be based on the Scriptures which are always relevant, if we are
going to hold fast to the faith. Not so, you see, with the Emerging
Church. Promoters say that being relevant means augmenting the
Scriptures by stimulating the senses with sounds, smells and

- WORLD'S FOREMOST AETHEIST CONVERTS
- Exclusive Interview - Benjamin Wiker: You say in There is
a God, that "it may well be that no one is as surprised
as I am that my exploration of the Divine has after all these
years turned from denial.to discovery." Everyone else was
certainly very surprised as well, perhaps all the more so since
on our end, it seemed so sudden. But in There is a God, we find
that it was actually a very gradual process-a "two decade
migration," as you call it. God was the conclusion of a
rather long argument, then. But wasn't there a point in the "argument"
where you found yourself suddenly surprised by the realization
that "There is a God" after all? So that, in some sense,
you really did "hear a Voice that says" in the evidence
itself " 'Can you hear me now?'"
- Anthony Flew: There were two factors in particular
that were decisive. One was my growing empathy with the insight
of Einstein and other noted scientists that there had to be an
Intelligence behind the integrated complexity of the physical
Universe. The second was my own insight that the integrated complexity
of life itself - which is far more complex than the physical
Universe - can only be explained in terms of an Intelligent Source.
I believe that the origin of life and reproduction simply cannot
be explained from a biological standpoint despite numerous efforts
to do so. With every passing year, the more that was discovered
about the richness and inherent intelligence of life, the less
it seemed likely that a chemical soup could magically generate
the genetic code. The difference between life and non-life, it
became apparent to me, was ontological and not chemical. The
best confirmation of this radical gulf is Richard Dawkins' comical
effort to argue in The God Delusion that the origin of life can
be attributed to a "lucky chance." If that's the best
argument you have, then the game is over. No, I did not hear
a Voice. It was the evidence itself that led me to this conclusion.
- Wiker: You are famous for arguing for a presumption
of atheism, i.e., as far as arguments for and against the existence
of God, the burden of proof lies with the theist. Given that
you believe that you only followed the evidence where it led,
and it led to theism, it would seem that things have now gone
the other way, so that the burden of proof lies with the atheist.
He must prove that God doesn't exist. What are your thoughts
on that?
- Flew: I note in my book that some philosophers
indeed have argued in the past that the burden of proof is on
the atheist. I think the origins of the laws of nature and of
life and the Universe point clearly to an intelligent Source.
The burden of proof is on those who argue to the contrary.
- Wiker: As for evidence, you cite a lot of the
most recent science, yet you remark that your discovery of the
Divine did not come through "experiments and equations,"
but rather, "through an understanding of the structures
they unveil and map." Could you explain? Does that mean
that the evidence that led you to God is not really, at heart,
scientific?
- Flew: It was empirical evidence, the evidence
uncovered by the sciences. But it was a philosophical inference
drawn from the evidence. Scientists as scientists cannot make
these kinds of philosophical inferences. They have to speak as
philosophers when they study the philosophical implications of
empirical evidence.
- Wiker: You are obviously aware of the spate
of recent books by such atheists as Richard Dawkins and Christopher
Hitchens. They think that those who believe in God are behind
the times. But you seem to be politely asserting that they are
ones who are behind the times, insofar as the latest scientific
evidence tends strongly toward-or perhaps even demonstrates-a
theistic conclusion. Is that a fair assessment of your position?
- Flew: Yes indeed. I would add that Dawkins
is selective to the point of dishonesty when he cites the views
of scientists on the philosophical implications of the scientific
data. Two noted philosophers, one an agnostic (Anthony Kenny)
and the other an atheist (Nagel), recently pointed out that Dawkins
has failed to address three major issues that ground the rational
case for God. As it happens, these are the very same issues that
had driven me to accept the existence of a God: the laws of nature,
life with its teleological organization and the existence of
the Universe.
- Wiker: You point out that the existence of
God and the existence of evil are actually two different issues,
which would therefore require two distinct investigations. But
in the popular literature-even in much of the philosophical literature-the
two issues are regularly conflated. Especially among atheists,
the presumption is that the non-existence of God simply follows
upon the existence of evil. What is the danger of such conflation?
How as a theist do you now respond?
- Flew: I should clarify that I am a deist. I
do not accept any claim of divine revelation though I would be
happy to study any such claim (and continue to do so in the case
of Christianity). For the deist, the existence of evil does not
pose a problem because the deist God does not intervene in the
affairs of the world. The religious theist, of course, can turn
to the free-will defense (in fact I am the one who first coined
the phrase free-will defense). Another relatively recent change
in my philosophical views is my affirmation of the freedom of
the will.
- Wiker: According to There is a God, you are
not what might be called a "thin theist," that is,
the evidence led you not merely to accept that there is a "cause"
of nature, but "to accept the existence of a self-existent,
immutable, immaterial, omnipotent, and omniscient Being."

- INDIAN EVANGELIST KILLED, SACRIFICED FOR HINDU 'GODDESS'
November 9, 2007 - An evangelist in the North Indian state of
Madhya Pradesh was killed by Hindu priests suspected of seeking
human sacrifices for a Hindu “goddess” in the latest
in a series of attacks against Christians in the country. According
to the Global Council of Indian Christians, Vipin Mandloli, 27,
was shot dead near Aamkut village in the Jhabua District, Madhya
Pradesh. Mandloi, who works as a shepherd in his spare time,
left his home on Oct. 14 to a nearby mountain to graze his sheep
near a Hindu temple. "There was a new temple of Kali, the
'goddess' of the Hindus, and he was in its premises," reported

- ROGER OAKLAND REMOVED FROM CALVARY CHAPEL RADIO
November 19, 2007 - In less than 48 hours after Roger Oakland
of Understand the Times posted an article titled "Ichabod,"
his radio program was removed from Calvary Chapel's radio network,
KWVE. Lighthouse Trails contacted KWVE on November 19th to confirm
the removal and to find out the reason this took place. Richard
McIntosh, KWVE station manager, confirmed the removal and told
Lighthouse Trails that while he knew the reason, he would not
comment. A secretary at KWVE suggested Lighthouse Trails speak
with McIntosh's boss for more information. She transferred the
call to the office of Chuck Smith Sr. who was unavailable for
comment at the time.

tourism, Saudi Arabia continues to ban non-Muslim religious
symbols and materials, including Bibles, crucifixes, and items
with the Jewish Star of David. Anyone attempting to bring such
materials into the country would be confronted by Saudi authorities,
consulate officials said. Saudi Arabian Airlines website explains
the prohibition as covering “Items and articles belonging
to religions other than Islam.” A consulate official defended
the prohibition, saying that all countries have rules determining

facing accusations he misspent school funds to support a lavish
lifestyle, resigned on Friday, officials said. Richard Roberts'
resignation is effective immediately, according to a statement
e-mailed from George Pearsons, chairman of the school's Board
of Regents. Roberts and the evangelical university have come
under fire since three former professors sued last month, alleging
wrongful termination. The lawsuit includes allegations of a $39,000
shopping tab at one store for Richard Roberts' wife, Lindsay,
a $29,411 Bahamas senior trip on the university jet for one of
Roberts' daughters, and a stable of horses for the Roberts children.
- Roberts, son of school founder and televangelist Oral Roberts,
had been on temporary leave from the university, fighting the
accusations against him. The Board of Regents had ordered an
outside probe of the school's finances.
- In a recent interview, Roberts and his wife denied wrongdoing.
He has said the lawsuit amounted to "intimidation, blackmail
and extortion." On Friday, he said in the statement that
he loved the university, of which he became president in 1993.
"I love ORU with all my heart," he said. "I love
the students, faculty, staff and administration and I want to
see God's best for all of them." The school will not provide
additional comment until next week, spokesman Jeremy Burton said.

REVIVAL IN ARCTIC CANADA: "THE BUILDING BEGAN TO SHAKE"
- It started like thunder, and at first no one knew what was
happening. Moses Kyak, who was operating the sound system, turned
the volume off but the noise kept getting louder. Then people
began falling down without anyone touching them. James Arreak,
who had been leading worship, began to shake. The building began
to shake. For about a minute the noise continued to fill the
church, like a mighty, rushing wind.
- "It sounded like Niagara Falls," says Rev. Joshua
Arreak (right picture), who was helping lead an afternoon youth
service at St. Timothy's Anglican Church with his younger brother
James (left picture). And then the sound went away. Along with
the Arreak brothers, about 40 people were in attendance for the
service in Pond Inlet, a community of 1,200 high on the northeastern
coast of Baffin Island, Canada. This visitation from God had
a deep impact on the community.
- Why did this happen in Pond Inlet, a remote little town that
dwells in darkness half the year, is accessible only by plane
and is thousands of miles removed from any population centre?
All Joshua Arreak knows is that people had been praying for the
community, especially for the young people, on a regular basis.
A few years earlier, they had gotten together to destroy, in
a huge bonfire, about $100,000 worth of heavy metal music, pornography
and drugs. "That's maybe partly why God was so gracious
to us," says Arreak. "We've been really humbled by
this."
- It was probably the most dramatic event marking revival in
Canada's Arctic, but it was neither the beginning nor the end
of a movement that has swept across the North, touching communities
and transforming lives in a way never seen before.
- Since the late 1950s, when settlers came to the region, social
problems have become rampant among the Inuits. Alcoholism, drug
use, sexual abuse, domestic violence, despair, unemployment,
and ultimately suicide began to characterize many places that
had been previously untouched by such things. Today Arctic Canada
has six times the rate of suicide in the south. The rate of heavy
drinking is three times the national average, solvent abuse is
26 times higher, the percentage of the population in jail is
three times higher, and teen pregnancy rates are six times higher,
with the infant death rate twice that found in southern Canada.
- Sometimes it is those very desperate circumstances that lay
the groundwork for revival. Nain, Labrador, a community of 1,200,
95 percent of whom are Inuit, was devastated by 11 suicides in
2000. When a team was invited for ministry that November, "there
was like a cloud of oppression that hung over the town,"
recalls James Arreak (who, besides pastoring, is director of
financing for the Nunavut government). Knowing a week of meetings
couldn't possibly fix the problems there, "we just went
in there to plant the seeds, and we left." Christians across
the country also prayed for Nain. Arreak and others made a second
visit in September 2001. "When we landed there, it was like
a totally different place," he says. "It was like the
cloud of oppression that used to hang over the town was not there."
Evidently crime was down, there had been no suicides all year,
"and the spirit of the community was up. Only God could
do that."
- Desperation may have made people ready for God; but none
of this new movement of the Spirit would be taking place without
prayer, say those who have witnessed dramatic changes. Besides
healing from traumas and tragedies and forgiveness of sin, the
revival movement has had two other important outgrowths: unity
among the churches and the development of dynamic Inuit leaders.
People whose background was drinking, gambling and promiscuity
are now solid Christians, and some are pastoring churches. But
Arreak also has a warning: "I found out that we cannot go
on yesterday's visitation. It has to be renewed every day."

is offering relief from purgatory to Roman Catholics who travel
to Lourdes over the next year, the Vatican said yesterday.

Pilgrims to the shrine in south-west France will receive "plenary
indulgences" from the Pontiff, which the Church says reduce
the time spent being "washed" of sin after death. The

2008. The Church teaches that people who do not go directly to
heaven must spend time in purgatory, where they can be purified
of residual sin.
- It is the latest initiative to get more pilgrims to the shrine,
famous for the reported healing properties of its water. In August
the Vatican opened an airline service offering pilgrims direct
flights from Rome to Lourdes. For those who cannot make the journey
to France, the Pope will also grant indulgences to Catholics
who pray at places of worship dedicated to the Madonna of Lourdes
from Feb 2 to Feb 11. Indulgences may also be granted under special
circumstances to people too sick to visit the shrine, the Vatican
said. The offer comes as the shrine prepares to commemorate the
150th anniversary of when the Madonna was said to have appeared
to a peasant girl in 1858. The Pope is expected to visit next

the Vatican secretary of state, on December 12 to accept the
pope's invitation. Representatives of Muslim participants at
the meeting will travel to the Vatican in February or March to
prepare for the event, Ghazi wrote. The Vatican's proposal was
itself a response to an open letter published Oct. 13 by 138

"Thankfully, Benedict XVI believes in the existence and
danger of evil - going back to the time he was in charge of the
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith." The CDF is
the oldest Vatican department and was headed by Benedict from
1982, when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, until he became Pope in
2005. Father Amorth said that during his time at the department
Benedict had not lost the chance to warn humanity of the risk
from the Devil.

against evil that was traditionally recited at the end of Catholic

peace. The problem, however, is that so few of them honored
him during his lifetime by their actions as legislators. In fact,
most members of Congress support policies that are totally at
odds with Catholic teachings. Just two years ago conservatives
were busy scolding the Pope for his refusal to back our invasion
of Iraq. One conservative media favorite even made the sickening
suggestion that the Pope was the enemy of the United States because
he would not support our aggression in the Middle East. The Pontiff
would not ignore the inherent contradiction in being pro-life
and pro-war, nor distort just war doctrine to endorse attacking
a nation that clearly posed no threat to America – and conservatives
resented it. September 11th did not change everything, and the

Lighthouse Trails that he had attended Saddleback as a congregant
for many months while researching and writing the book, and he
gave financially to Saddleback during that time. Mair said that
he had greatly admired Rick Warren, which is what prompted him
to write the book in the first place. However, Warren did not
reciprocate the admiration, and in fact came out against the
book, but not until the book was mentioned in a 2005 Lighthouse

through nuclear war. The beliefs of the Iranian "Twelvers"-the
followers of the Twelfth Imam who believe that the world must
teeter on an apocalyptic precipice before their "savior"
(the Mahdi) will return, may well impact our world dramatically
long before Christ returns. These "Twelvers," as they
are sometimes called, number over ten million. With the ascension
of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the position of power in Iran, we have
heard much about the last known descendant of Hussein, Muhammad
al-Mahdi, or the Mahdi. Al-Mahdi was the Twelfth Imam in the

- BUSH'S BIG BOO-BOO

policy of the Bush Administration has been its weak-dollar position--letting
the dollar slide in value against the euro, the yen, the pound
and gold. The repeatedly disproved theory in operation here is
that cheapening your currency will improve your trade balance
and that an improved trade balance makes your economy stronger
and wealthier. Put aside the meaninglessness of the trade balance
as a measure of economic health or sickness--the U.S., after
all, has had a trade deficit with the rest of the world for 350
years out of the last 400. A weak-currency policy has disastrous
economic and political consequences--most immediately, our tumultuous
equity markets. Look at what's happened since the Federal Reserve
began creating excess money in 2004. The already booming housing
market was, in effect, shot up with steroids as lending standards
were lowered to put all the excess liquidity to work. We are
still feeling the effects of the subprime mortgage crisis, as
banks tighten up on lending (they don't even want to lend to
each other, which tells you something), which in turn has sharply
slowed the economy. Banks themselves engaged in a binge of creating
off-balance-sheet structures, most notably with so-called SIVs
(structured investment vehicles). The idea was that you could
generate juicy fees packaging subprime mortgages and could finance
them with commercial paper and not have to set capital aside.
Voilà! Returns on capital blossomed! Now many of these
institutions are scrambling for infusions of capital from Asia
and the Middle East, as circumstances force them to put these
bizarre, loss-laden vehicles back on their balance sheets.
- The banks' behavior is inexcusable. But, as with bartenders
who continue to ply drunken patrons with drinks, the Federal
Reserve bears a heavy responsibility for creating loads of excess
capital in the first place and the Bush White House for winking
and nodding while the dollar was being debased. The geopolitical
fallout from the weak dollar is all around us: Terrorist Iran
gets massive windfalls for its oil; ditto Venezuela under its
wounded but still reigning lunatic, Hugo Chávez; Russia
becomes more truculently anti-American with each uptick in the
price of oil; so-called sovereign funds buy up U.S. corporate
assets at fire-sale prices; China, which outsourced its monetary
policy to the Fed in the mid-1990s when it tied the yuan to the
greenback, now faces increasingly destabilizing inflation; and
oil-lacking developing countries, many of them fledgling democracies,
are being hit with potentially destabilizing economic squeezes.
The prices of oil and other commodities are surging primarily
because of the weak dollar. Between mid-2003 and the beginning
of 2008 oil has zoomed from $25 a barrel to almost $100. Real
demand in oil didn't suddenly massively increase to justify a
nearly fourfold rise in price. The best indicator of inflation
is gold. In this same time period the yellow metal has zoomed
from around $350 an ounce to more than $800 an ounce. More than
$50 of the per-barrel price of oil today comes from inflation
and the speculation that inflation induces.
- President Bush should promptly reverse the government's destructive
course by boldly declaring that the U.S. will now actively support
the integrity of its currency ( see Current Events). Bush aides
might say that the President is no economist and must therefore
rely on advice from the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve,

- Regulations issued today explain how Mexican-domiciled carriers
may apply for operating authority beyond the U.S.-Mexico border
commercial zones. The rules include requirements that meet the
terms of the Transportation and Related Agencies Appropriations
Act, 2002.
Mexican-domiciled carriers and U.S. and Canadian carriers are
governed by the same safety standards when operating in the U.S.
Mexican-domiciled carriers applying to operate to and from the
United States are required to have a distinctive USDOT number,
undergo safety monitoring initially and during an 18-month provisional
period.
During operations under provisional operating authority, and
for 36 months after receiving permanent authority, Mexican vehicles
operating beyond the border commercial zones into the U.S. must
display a valid Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspection
decal.
The regulations require all Mexican-domiciled carriers entering
the United States to have a drug and alcohol-testing program,
a system of compliance with U.S. federal hours-of-service requirements,
adequate data and safety management systems, and valid insurance
with a U.S. registered insurance company.
Mexican commercial vehicles with authority to operate beyond
the commercial zones will be permitted to enter the United States
only at commercial border crossings and only when a certified

The most visible initiative in the hemispheric integration plan
is the transportation system. An international system of superhighways
is being built and/or upgraded from mostly existing interstate
highways. Some of the corridors will be privatized, toll roads.
The ostensible purpose of the highways is to transport imported
goods from China through Canada and Mexico to the heart of our
country and distributed beyond. These road systems will have
'inland ports' (KC Smart Port) also known as intermodal-commerce
zones. They are similar in concept to the Communist Chinese foreign
trade zones. There are several corridor routes going from Mexico
to Canada.

- BEWARE OF MERCURY [POISON] IN CFL BULBS PROMOTED TODAY

Bulbs - The idiocies emanating from congress have made its popularity
ratings even worse than those of the current White House occupant.
The latest example: Our national legislators are banning traditional
incandescent light bulbs, which were invented by Thomas Edison
more than 120 years ago. By 2014 these bulbs will be illegal.
Instead, we'll be coerced into paying six to eight times the
price of incandescents for supposedly more "efficient"
compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) that last longer and consume
less electricity. Well, if CFLs are so great, why do we need
a law to force us to buy 'em? Why can't politicians set aside
their Nanny Bloombergesque dispositions and let the markets work?
- But there's a more immediate problem: Each CFL bulb contains
about 5 milligrams of mercury, a highly toxic and indestructible
substance. It's like bulbs with asbestos. Billions of these bulbs
will be everywhere. If one drops and breaks, you've got a problem,
especially if you have small kids or pets roaming around. Here's
a harbinger of the crisis to come from an item in Investor's
Business Daily: "According to an article in the Apr. 12,
2007 issue of the Ellsworth [Me.] American, [Brandy] Bridges
was installing one in her daughter's bedroom when it dropped
on the floor and shattered. Luckily, Brandy knew CFLs contained
mercury and called the store where she bought hers for advice.
She was advised to call the Poison Control hotline, which in
turn directed her to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
DEP showed up and found that mercury levels in her daughter's
room were six times the state's 'safe' level. The DEP specialist
gave her a 'low-ball' estimate of $2,000 to clean up the room."

- FBI AND BRITISH POLICE PLAN GLOBAL DATABASE

the FBI about setting up an international database with details
of irises, palms and fingerprints to help catch criminals and
terrorists, it has been revealed. The new international database
would include iris scans. The project, known as Server in the
Sky, would enable biometric details and measurements as well
as personal information of suspects to be swapped between countries.
- It is being coordinated by America but discussions are being
held with the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, all of which
have formed a working group, the International Information Consortium,
to plan their strategy.

Brad Henry has signed a sweeping immigration Reform bill: House
Bill 1804, that its sponsor believes will go a long way in dealing
with the illegal alien problem in the state. House Bill 1804
was passed by overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate
of the Oklahoma Legislature. The measure's sponsor, State Representative
Randy Terrill, says the bill has four main topical areas:
it deals with identity theft; it terminates public assistance
benefits to illegal; it empowers state and local police to enforce
federal immigration laws; and it punishes employers who knowingly
hire illegal aliens. Oklahoma is no longer "O.K." for
illegal aliens, Terrill observes. "When you put everything
together in context," he contends, "the bottom line
is illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting
for them, they will not stay here if there is no government subsidy,
and they certainly won't stay here if they know that if they
ever encounter our state and local law enforcement officers,
they will be physically detained until they're deported. And

and investment communities on December 4-5th in New York surrounding
the development of an implantable bio-sensing RFID microchip
to measure glucose levels in the human body. Checking blood glucose

Doubts grow over the White House's plan to shore up the U.S.
economy - January 21 2008: Markets around the world declined
Monday as investors expressed their concerns about the U.S. economy.
LONDON (AP) -- Stocks fell sharply worldwide Monday following
declines on Wall Street last week amid investor pessimism over
the U.S. government's stimulus plan to prevent a recession. U.S.
markets were closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but the downbeat
mood from last week's market declines there circled through Europe,
Asia and the Americas. Britain's benchmark FTSE-100 slumped 5.5
percent to 5,578.20, France's CAC-40 Index tumbled 6.8 percent
to 4,744.15, and Germany's blue-chip DAX 30 plunged 7.2 percent
to 6,790.19.
- In Asia, India's benchmark stock index tumbled 7.4 percent,
while Hong Kong's blue-chip Hang Seng index plummeted 5.5 percent
to 23,818.86, its biggest percentage drop since the Sept. 11,
2001, terror attacks.
- Canadian stocks fell as well, with the S&P/TSX composite
index on the Toronto Stock Exchange down 4 percent in early afternoon
trading. In Brazil, stocks plunged 6.9 percent on the main index
of Sao Paulo's Bovespa exchange.
- Investors dumped shares because they were skeptical that
an economic stimulus plan President Bush announced Friday would
shore up the economy that has been battered by problems in its
housing and credit markets. The plan, which requires approval
by Congress, calls for about $145 billion worth of tax relief
to encourage consumer spending. "We've taken our lead from
the Asian markets who have not been impressed by the U.S. There's
debate if there's going to be a recession in the U.S. I don't
think there's much chance of that though," said Richard
Hunter an analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown Stockbrokers Ltd. in
London. Concerns about the outlook for the U.S. economy, a major
export market for Asian companies, has sent the region's markets

per cent, losing 323.5 points to close at 5578.2 - its biggest
one-day points drop since the September 11 terrorist attacks
in 2001.
- The Footsie has now fallen by around 10 per cent in the last
10 days, by around 15 per cent over the last month and is well
on the way to being off 20 per cent since its most recent high
of 6754 in July - before the world's banking system was sent
spiralling.
- It is also the worst start to the year for the stock market
since records began in 1936. "I smell the acrid stench of
fear and uncertainty," said markets commentator David Buik
of BGC Partners. Shares across Europe also dived and Asian stock
markets suffered heavy overnight losses as fears over the health
of the world's biggest economy swept through markets across the
globe. The falls followed Friday's falls for the Dow Jones Industrial
Average on Wall Street, when investors were left unimpressed
by the US Government's tax-relief plans to spur on the economy.

to reveal a financial hit from the collapse of America's sub-prime

nearly 6 percent on Monday, their biggest one-day slide since
the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, as fears of a U.S. recession and
more write downs in the financial sector sparked a broad-based
selloff. "This is like a panic. It's like out, out, out
(of stocks). Run for cover," said Dirk Mueller, a trader
at Frankfurt brokerage ICF. "There is a very ugly sense
of capitulation and the worst thing is that we can't see where
it will all end," said Javier Galan, fund manager at Spanish
brokerage Renta 4. The FTSEurofirst index index of top European
shares closed down 5.8 percent at 1,279.85 points, having earlier
hit an 18-month low of 1,278.79. Monday's fall was the index's
11th drop in 14 sessions for a total loss of 15 percent in 2008.
- "Financial markets have again been caught by fears of
a U.S. recession and a worsening of the problems in the financial
sector," Danske Bank strategists said in a research note.
"The pace of the decline has been very strong and indicates
that investors that have been long equities are now taking their
losses," Danske Bank said. Germany's DAX .GDAXI dropped
7.2 percent, the French CAC 40 .FCHI was down 6.8 percent and
Britain's FTSE .FTSE lost 5.5 percent. The slide in these three
indexes wiped out more than $350 billion of the value of their
constituent stocks, equal to the combined gross domestic product

May 14, 2006, Jubilant supporters greeted Mr Chavez in London
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has warned the US that any attack
on Iran will have devastating consequences and send oil prices
soaring.
Mr Chavez, on a two-day trip to the UK, called for a socialist
new world order and said nations were cowards for not standing
up to the "American empire".

around Iran's nuclear program includes an unlikely bishop. According
to several well-placed Rome sources, Iranian officials are quietly
laying the groundwork necessary to turn to Pope Benedict XVI
and top Vatican diplomats for mediation if the showdown with
the United States should escalate toward a military intervention.
The 80-year-old Pope has thus far steered clear of any strong
public comments about either Iran's failure to fully comply with
U.N. nuclear weapons inspectors or the drumbeat of war coming
from some corners in Washington. But Iran, which has had diplomatic
relations with the Holy See for 53 years, may be trying to line
up Benedict as an ace in the hole for staving off a potential

Thursday to offer buyouts and other incentives worth as much
as $140,000 each to its 75,000 hourly workers in the United States
to persuade them to leave their jobs. The deal with the United
Automobile Workers comes after a similar offer at General Motors
earlier this year that was accepted by nearly a third of its
union workers. It is also the latest sign that Detroit has decided
it needs to shrink to survive. Together, the agreements mean
that nearly 200,000 hourly employees in the United States —
or three-quarters of those working on the assembly lines of Detroit’s
three car companies — have been offered deals to give up
their jobs this year. By contrast, nearly 1 million workers were
employed by Detroit automakers at their peak in 1978. The buyout
offer has increased the expectation that Ford will announce more
plant closings Friday, when it said it would disclose details
of the next phase of its sweeping plan to overhaul the company,
called the Way Forward. Any new plant closings would be in addition
to earlier plans to shut 14 plants by 2012, a move that will
eliminate 30,000 jobs. Ford may speed up that timetable, and
it also is expected to announce further cuts in white-collar
and blue-collar jobs, spending cuts and changes in its lineup

38,000 hourly production workers -- almost half of the automaker's

8,000 who took deals offered at limited plants earlier this year.
Faced with lower demand for its products, Ford had hoped that
25,000 to 30,000 workers would take one of eight packages so

and waste be gone. But this week, for millions of people here
in Orange County, pulling the lever will be the start of a long,
intense process to purify the sewage into drinking water - after
a hard scrubbing with filters, screens, chemicals and ultraviolet
light and the passage of time underground. On Friday, the Orange
County Water District will turn on what industry experts say
is the world's largest plant devoted to purifying sewer water
to increase drinking water supplies. They and others hope it
serves as a model for authorities worldwide facing persistent
drought, predicted water shortages and projected growth. The
process, called by proponents "indirect potable water reuse"
and "toilet to tap" by the wary, is getting a close
look in several cities. The San Diego City Council approved a
pilot plan in October to bolster a drinking water reservoir with
recycled sewer water. The mayor vetoed the proposal as costly
and unlikely to win public acceptance, but the council will consider

- GREEN COLLAR JOBS??
- By Raquel Pinderhughes - Over the next decade, the potential
for green collar jobs, which I define as blue-collar work force
opportunities created by firms and organizations whose mission
is to improve environmental quality, could be very large.1 This
is because, despite what is happening at the federal level, many
San Francisco Bay Area cities, and the state of California, are
proposing and passing policies and programs designed to improve
environmental quality. These include policies related to zero
waste, energy and water conservation, residential solar energy,
whole home performance, local procurement, open space, and strengthening
local food systems. In addition, the number of San Francisco
Bay Area residents choosing to use their money to buy goods and
services from firms and organizations that are improving environmental
quality is increasing rapidly. Over time, this combination of
factors should result in a significant expansion of local green
collar jobs in the area. In order to find out what are the characteristics
of green collar jobs? And What factors contribute to the growth
and vibrancy of these sectors? I have been interviewing employers
who provide green collar jobs to workers in more than 100 local
firms/institutions which are producing jobs in 22 specific sectors:
- Bicycle repair and bike delivery services
- Car and truck mechanic jobs, production jobs, and gas-station
jobs related to biodiesel
- Energy retrofits to increase energy efficiency and
conservation
- Green building
- Green waste composting on a large scale
- Hauling and reuse of construction materials and
debris (C&D)
- Hazardous materials clean-up
- Landscaping
- Manufacturing jobs related to large scale production of appropriate
technologies (i.e. solar panels, bike cargo systems, green waste
bins, etc.)
- Materials reuse
- Non-toxic household cleaning in residential and commercial
buildings
- Parks and open space expansion and maintenance
- Printing with non-toxic inks and dyes
- Public transit jobs related to driving, maintenance, and
repair
- Recycling and reuse
- Small businesses producing products from recycled materials
- Solar installation
- Tree cutting and pruning
- Peri-urban and urban agriculture
- Water retrofits to increase water efficiency and conservation
- Whole home performance, including attic insulation, weatherization,
etc.
- It is very clear that moving away from polluting work and
towards environmentally restorative work will bring significant
changes and immediate benefits to workers, communities, and society
at large. We need to develop a clearer understanding of what
kinds of policies and programs can ensure that green collar jobs
are made available to workers with limited initial education
and skills, and that these jobs are stable, living wage jobs
that provide benefits to workers and their families. Do green
collar jobs, in and of themselves, offer workers a supportive
work experience that contributes to improvements in quality of
life?
- Recent research on sustainable agriculture in the U.S. has
revealed that although crops are being grown with less toxic
inputs, on many of these farms ,workers continue to be terribly
exploited. Similarly, some manufacturers producing processed
food made with organic ingredients, and some supermarkets known
for selling healthy organic food, offer workers part-time work
employment in order to avoid providing benefits to workers and,
have been involved in union busting. A job designed to improve
environmental quality is not guaranteed to be a stable living
wage job that provides workers with essential benefits. It is
unclear if local green collar jobs will benefit low-income people
